What is Naturopathic Medicine?
Naturopathic Medicine is a primary health care system that blends modern scientific knowledge with traditional and natural forms of medicine. The philosophy is to stimulate the healing power of the body and treat the underlying cause of disease.
In Canada, Naturopathic Doctors need a Bachelors degree before attending a four year naturopathic medical program. The profession's infrastructure includes accredited educational institutions, professional licensing, national standards of practice, participation in many federal health committee initiatives, and a commitment to scientific research.

I am guided by the six principles of Naturopathic Medicine:
- First do no harm: the Naturopathic Doctor follows three principles to avoid harming the patient: minimize the risk of harmful side effects; avoid the harmful suppression of symptoms; acknowledge and respect the individual's healing process.
- The healing power of nature: Naturopathic Doctors work to restore and support the natural healing ability of the body, mind, and spirit.
- Identify and treat the cause: I view symptoms as the body's attempt to let you know a disharmony is happening within your body, mind, or spirit. Naturopathic Doctors determine and treat the cause of this disharmony rather than suppressing those symptoms.
- Treat the whole person: Naturopathic medicine is centred around the individual. Each person is unique, and each person requires a unique health plan that takes into account physical symptoms as well as mental, emotional, genetic, environmental, social, and spiritual factors.
- Doctor as teacher: Naturopathic Doctors acknowledge the therapeutic value of the doctor-patient relationship. I will spend the necessary time to help understand health/harmony and illness/disharmony.
- Disease prevention and health promotion: By applying the above principles, I will assist in not only freeing the body of disease or disharmony, but also optimizing overall health.
